Fairbanks Closed

100922 – Fairbanks Closed

We started the day with Joshua and I visiting the Hunters, Richard and Kurt.  They showed us some of their rifles and pistols.  Last night at the camp fire, Kurt pulls out from under his jacket is 44 magnum.  Today, they showed me their 30 cal rifle, the preferred choice for hunting Moose.  I fired off a round, boy did this thing have some power.  Then they bought out their 22 for Josh to play with and he shot 30 rounds or so, then they gave him a 247 if I recall right, it had a 'bang' not as big at the 30 cal, but Josh felt it.  Kurt then bought out his bigger 44 Magnum Pistol, the one he wears all the time is a 6" barrel, this one was 8 1/2".  Then they bought our some more guns.  I fired his 44, it had some kick, I fire one once in my Police Days.

Us boys had about two hours of fun shooting.  They spent time with Joshua showing him how to handle the weapons safely and confidently.  It was fun.  But we had to get on the road.

The drive into Fairbanks was on good tarmac.

We looked around for the Bison Herd at Delta Junction, but instead found Moose, see pictures below.

Our first choice to stop the night was at North Pole, but the RV Park was closed, so headed on into Fairbanks. Got into Fairbanks on dark, and found the RV Park we used back in 2006 was also closed for the season. It was a big drive today, so we crashed this place and camped by the Chena River and watched some Beavers.

Weather: Blue Sky and cold.

Joshua was attacked by a large Mossie at the Visitor Info Centre at Delta Junction.  Some of the Mossies we have seen have been the size of small Finches, really.
